Access – Design a Database
One should already have all the database concepts in mind and know how to navigate across Access, input data through forms and retrieve the data through queries (as covered in “Access – Use a Database and Forms”). This module is intended for people that will design and edit an Access database solution.
Design a structured database
- Create the tables in the database.
- Add, modify and delete fields.
- Set up field properties to easily input data through a form.
- Add a primary key and an index.
Implement relationships between tables
- Review the types of relationships: One-to-One, One-to-Many, Many-to-Many.
- Apply referential integrity.
- Link the tables with different joins.
Create and edit queries
- Write logical queries to find the unmatched, duplicates or the full set.
- Write Crosstab queries.
- Write action queries: append, update, delete, make table.
- Review and make sense of the SQL language.
Create and modify forms
- Create a simple form and a related sub-form.
- Modify the properties of the form objects.
- Add calculated controls.
Integrate other MS 365 applications and files
- Understand the purpose of splitting a shared database.
- Import and link to CSV files, Excel files and Access tables.
- Refresh the links and use Linked Table Manager.
- Export a table or query as an Excel or PDF file.
